Quotes & Reviews on That Man's Got To Go:
Reviews KVKR-FM, January ‘09 “Sweet Claudette, That Man’s Got To Go (No Cover) Ms. Claudette, though relatively unknown on the national scene, has the sound of a woman who has been singing the Blues for a good long time. And the group of musicians she has behind her on this record lay down a groove that does Detroit proud.”

‘Sweet’ Claudette (Johnson) Harrell has affixed her roots to the blues in the many, many regions she has traveled throughout the continental USA, during her work life. Sweet Claudette is twice retired from corporate America and local government in Michigan. Realizing each region of the USA has its own style of picking and singing gave ‘Sweet’ Claudette great material for her songs. She has 36 songs registered with BMI and recorded over four CDs. She’s been carving her niche in the blues genre’ writing about frustrations folk have in living through their own unhappy situations. It’s about other people’s woes. “I just make song out of ‘em”, she explains. They are truthful, raw urban blues with sharp edged wit. Sweet Claudette has been a blues icon for many, many years achieving local, regional, national and international status while singing the blues to fans in places from Michigan to Alabama to Windsor and Burlington, Ontario Canada.
‘Sweet’ Claudette first introduction to blues came in the town of Heflin, Alabama, where she was born. During the early years of her young life, in that rural region folk picked, sang and played the blues a great deal of the time. The music was married into the motions of their workday. Songs of Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey seemed to be the favorites sang while they worked the fields. Of course, there were spirituals by Sister Rosetta Thorpe, Five Blind Boys, Sam Cooke and many others, who helped to give a tremendous music foundation to ‘Sweet’ Claudette. She heard her daddy singing in his deep baritone / bass voice and her momma singing alto during their ‘Tunk' games or rent parties. Of course, Sweet Claudette’s ears were to the wall taking it all in. Neither parent took to singing, but it was in Sweet Claudette's blood. Bassman Ben Moore encouraged Claudette to sing. She studied the moves of Detroit’s own Queen of the Blues, Alberta Adams and the spunk of Etta James, while she honed her skills. Now, Sweet Claudette takes great joy in sharing her knowledge and experience with youngsters who are interested in pursing career in the blues genre’.
