This year's May 31, 2008 Willie King Freedom Creek Festival featured an outstanding roster of premier blues artists including headline acts Jerry Portnoy, the legendary Sam Lay, Willie King & The Liberators, Cedric Burnside and Lightenin Malcolm and Mudcat, along with Highlander, Alabama blues women Caroline Shines, Debbie Bond, Shar-Baby and Sweet Claudette, plus many other Alabama blues talents. The festival promised to be an explosive celebration of the blues, deep in the land from which it is was born! Boy-oh-boy did it ever explode!!!!!

Sweet Claudette was back with Canada's Hottest Guitarist, James Anthony and his band at Carrigan Arms on May 24th. We then went on to our 2nd gig where we made the walls vibrate at Lezley's CHAPS Restaurant & Sports Lounge, also in Burlington, ON

Thanks to some pretty wonderful people who gave us some great and exciting opportunities in 2007, Sweet Claudette & Friends Band got a chance to play in front of and for a lot of new folk. We made some great friends and gained some pretty loyal followers ... YOU!!!! I'm going to attempt to recap some of the places we saw many of you. Sweet Claudette & Friends performed at the Detroit Winterblast and had 2 performances at the Detroit Riverwalk. One of those was on the actual Riverwalk and one was inside the GM Bldg. That was pretty awesome. We were at Margie's Max Dugan several months over the last couple of years. Sweet Claudette & Friends won the 2007 2nd Round in a Competition for Blues Band and were given a chance to compete in the Detroit finals for a spot in the International Blues Competition. Sweet Claudette traveled south for the 7th time to be a part of the Alabama Women of the Blues at the Willie King Freedom Creek Festival, which is known worldwide. Sweet Claudette has been on the same bill with headliners: Willie King & The Liberators, Debbie Bond, Carroline Shines, Shar-Baby, Paul Oscher, Hubert Sumlin, Eddie Kirkland, T-Model Ford, Sam Lay, Jerry Portnoy, Honey Boy Edwards, James Anthony and many more. Sweet Claudette & Friends hooked back up and traveled north to work the Oxford Hot Blues & BBQ Festival along with some of Michigan's best blues known artist, under organizer and President of the Detroit Blues Society, Steve Allen. Next we were offered a very special opportunity to work the well established Jackson Blues Festival. Sweet Claudette went back to do her sixth or seventh stint on her favorite festival with her new Friends .... Port Huron Jazz & Blues Fest. That was a HOT one for sho'. We went on from there to be a part of a fundraiser for Children's Hospital & Gilda's Club at the Mark Ridgley's Comedy Castle. We participated in the Heatstock Festival, G.I.Blues Benefit along with bassman Steve Allen in Westland. Sweet Claudette & Friends were back for a 2nd year at the Pontiac Arts, Beats & Eats. Then Paul Cerevenak called Sweet Claudette to work with him and the Three Man Army band at the Meadowbrook Wine Tasting Fest for her second year there. Another wonderful thing happened, we were booked at Alibis in Windsor, Ontario Canada for a couple of shows. Those Canadian folk know how to party and will dance your knee hi's down around your ankles. That's a good thang ya'll. James Anthony, one of Canada's undisputed guitarist invited Sweet Claudette to be his special guest on a couple shows in Burlington, Ontario Canada at the Carrigan Arms, Tailgaters & Lezley's Chaps Restaurant & Lounge. Ooooooo Weeeeeee. That James Anthony is a 'boss hogg' entertainer. I mean he's melt in your mouth butter mints. Smooth singer. Sweet Claudette & Friends released our LIVE & KICKIN' CD at Memphis Smoke in Royal Oak as well as at the Music Suites in Toledo, Ohio. This CD has proven to be one of the best things this band has done together. Thanks Mike Boulan for making this happen for us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

WE APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU for continuing to support us!!!

2008 Willie King Freedom Creek Festival - June 10, 2008

This year's Freedom Creek festival featured an outstanding roster of premier blues artists including headline acts Jerry Portnoy, the legendary Sam Lay, Willie King & The Liberators, Cedric Burnside and Lightenin Malcolm and Mudcat, along with Highlander, Alabama blues women Carroline Shines, Debbie Bond, Shar-Baby and Sweet Claudette, plus so many other Alabama blues talents. Sweet Claudette w/James Anthony at Lezley's CHAPS, Burlington, ONT - May 28, 2008

What a surprise to get an opportunity to perform at Lezley's CHAPS. James Anthony has the best musical talent and warm personality to have developed a vast following in the Burlington, ONT area. A great deal of the audience for this gig was followers from the earlier gig at Carrigan Arms that day. The owner and his staff were GREAT! Sweet Claudette came home with an autographed Lezley's T-Shirt and an offer to join their artist wall. Of course, we hurriedly sent the autographed photo. Nuff said. LOL

James Anthony Band (JAB) & Sweet Claudette at Carrigan Arms, Burlington, ONT - March 28, 2008

An over capacity, seam splitting, wall expanding crowd for all 3 segments at this one at Carrigan Arms, Burlington Ontario Canada. James Anthony's expanded band (James-master guitarist, bassman-Uli, Gordi on drums, master keyboardist, John & the lip man -Pete on sax) showed their natural behinds and took the music to the next level. It was done with such controlled volume and dyanamics that 'you could indeed hear a rat piss on cotton' at times. The audience was 'on their game' and boogied with us. AND of course, I got a chance to do one or 2 of my corny jokes before all was said and done.
